Rudi Verspoor DMH (Email Rudi Verspoor…)

Rudi Verspoor and Patty Smith-Verspoor

Rudi Verspoor has been studying Dr. Hahnemann's medical system for more than two decades and has acquired extensive clinical experience, particularly with complex and chronic cases, in the application of this system. His abiding interest in history and philosophy has led him to undertake continual research into various problems and issues that have arisen in traditional homeopathic treatment, and this has included weekly conversations with Steven Decker for over 12 years. This research has led to the development of a systematic dynamic approach to therapeutics that is now being offered in a comprehensive form to others through a number of educational programs.

Rudi has written several books providing new insights based on his research and clinical experience and has lectured widely in Canada, the US, the UK and Europe. He served as the Director of the British Institute of Homeopathy (Canada) from 1993 to early 2001, and developed their Homeopathic Practitioner Diploma Program. He has taught extensively both in-class and on a distance learning basis. His previous experience has been in public policy, planning and administration.

He helped to found the National United Professional Association of Trained Homeopaths (NUPATH) serving as its president for 14 years, and the Canadian/International Heilkunst Association (C/IHA). Part of his time has been spent advising the Canadian government on health-care policy and in working for greater acceptance of and access to homeopathy and Heilkunst amongst policy makers and the public.

His publications include: Autism: The Journey Back, Recovering the Self Through Heilkunst (with Patty Smith); Homeopathy Renewed, A Sequential Approach to the Treatment of Chronic Illness (with Patty Smith); A Time for Healing; Homeopathy Re-examined: Beyond the Classical Paradigm (with Steven Decker); The Dynamic Legacy: Hahnemann from Homeopathy to Heilkunst (with Steven Decker). He also has written various articles for Canadian and International journals.

Patty Smith-Verspoor DMH, DVH, BSEd. (Email Patty Smith-Verspoor…)

Rudi Verspoor and Patty Smith-Verspoor

Patty Smith has been interested in homeopathy since her first introduction in 1977. When her father was admitted to Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia for a triple coronary bypass, she already was suggesting alternative treatment (and reading, at that time, Dr. Robert Mendelsohn's Confessions of a Medical Heretic and The Pritikin Program by Dr. Nathan Pritikin). Following her father's surgery there was a medical snafu, putting him into a coma for five months before he died at Christmas, 1980.

With more determination, and after witnessing homeopathic miracles in her home (ex-husband's finger almost being severed by a lawnmower but healing beautifully; burned hand when she put the potholder on her right hand and removed the Thanksgiving turkey with her left; food poisoning, etc.) she began her studies in earnest.

She joined the Bryn Athyn, PA study group (affiliated with the National Center for Homeopathy) and eventually turned her wholistic parenting group (Whole Parents, Whole Kids) in Mercer County, NJ into an affiliated study group of the NCH. She served as the New Jersey representative to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Study Group Council and helped create and revitalize homeopathic study groups in NJ. She was awarded a scholarship from Boiron, one of the world's largest homeopathic pharmaceutical companies, to the National Center for Homeopathy's Summer School.

In 1995 she moved from New Jersey to Ottawa, Canada after being offered a partnership in the Norsana Academy Clinic, sharing the space with Rudolf Verspoor (whom she subsequently married). She served as the Dean of Admissions and Student Affairs for the British Institute of Homeopathy (Canada) for more than five years, working with Rudi to develop the advanced practitioner programs offered in initially in Canada, and now worldwide. She was a co-founder of the National United Professional Association of Trained Homeopaths (NUPATH) and served on its Board of Directors for ten years. She also is a founding member of the Canadian and International Heilkunst Associations.

Last, but by no means least — she loves and adores her two fascinating daughters, Meghan and Kelsey; and her animals Baby Doll (a filly); Angel (a rescue pony) and Truffles (Dutch Warmblood/Throughbred cross); Maggie (a West Highland White Terrier); and Timou, her Africa Grey Parrot. Her enjoyment of the latter group led to her (ongoing) research and development of the use of Hahnemann's medical system with animal health, Veterinary Heilkunst.

Patty co-authored Autism: The Journey Back, Recovering the Self Through Heilkunst with Rudi Verspoor, and worked with him on Homeopathy Renewed. She has contributed many articles to newspapers, and wholistic and homeopathic journals and magazines in the United States and Canada. She is editor of the Heilkunst Journal, a publication of the Hahnemann Center for Heilkunst, and The Whole Story, the newsletter of the Hahnemann Clinic. She currently is working on A Patient's Guide to Heilkunst and A Patient's Guide to Vaccinations, and Homeo- and Homo-prophylaxis.

Steven Decker FHCH(Hon.) ()

Steven Decker

Steven Decker is a scholar par excellence who has dedicated his life to the pursuit of knowledge and its dissemination. He has spent the last 35 years immersing himself in the works of Samuel Hahnemann, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Rudolf Steiner and Wilhelm Reich, among many others in the Dynamic System.

His University studies in Germany led him to a deep appreciation of the works and life of Goethe and later into an extensive study of his scientific writings. It was in this context that his discovery of the writings of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann took place. He realized, in studying the original works of Dr. Hahnemann in the original German, that these works formed a critical part of a dynamic system of thought applied to medicine, but that they had been misunderstood and mistranslated. His intensive work and retranslations of Hahnemann's writings have yielded new insights into their meaning and have shown the prevailing confusion in traditional homeopathic writings and teachings. Because of his deep appreciation for, and understanding of, the German language in the context and times in which Dr. Hahnemann was lived and wrote, his translation of Hahnemann's works, and in particular his Interlinear Extended Organon, has been hailed by the homeopathic community as the most brilliant rendering of Hahnemann's genius.

All of this work has opened a perspective on what Coleridge called the “Dynamic System”, which has had many contributors since the inception of the modern scientific period. Beholding them all as a unity constituting a single coherent system of thought has been his constant endeavor over the last quarter century. This Dynamic System is the key to understanding homeopathy and Hahnemann's complete medical system. In fact, what has emerged is an entire subterranean Western medical system, founded on the blueprint laid down by Dr. Hahnemann. The results of these ongoing investigations are currently being published in The Dynamic Legacy, a book written in collaboration with Rudi Verspoor. He also has created the most comprehensive translation of the Organon available to date, an interlinear, available here. This book has been praised by many, including the University of Leipsig, for its excellence in adhering to the German language of the time of Hahnemann. A native Californian, he resides in Santa Barbara.

François Jooste ()
BSc Pharm/Chem, DHM, MBA, ACS, DHPh, HD(RHom.)
François is an Ontario-licensed community pharmacist in the Niagara region. He understands and practices conventional and natural medicine on a daily basis, and is very familiar with patients needs, as well as the needs and knowledge base of allopathic physicians. François routinely integrates conventional therapies with natural treatment therapies, and his area of special interest is natural hormone replacement therapy and pain management.

François has done extensive research into the integration of conventional medicine with homoeopathy, herbology, nutrition, Bach Flower Remedies, aromatherapy, Traditional Chinese Medicine ’ including acupuncture and several other complementary therapies, for more than 12 years. He has an intimate knowledge of, and training in, practical, hands-on pharmacognosy, and he practices herbology by integrating pharmacognosy with a pharmacological, phytochemical and wholistic approach. François also has a great deal of knowledge and training in clinical nutrition, vitamins and trace minerals, and he is presently a student in acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

He currently is conducting ground-breaking research in the subject of drug/drug interactions, herb/herb interactions, herb/drug interactions and the nutrient depletions inherent in the use of material substances (drugs and herbs).

François has one grown son, and lives with his lovely wife Helena in the Niagara region of Canada.

Donna MacKenzie ()
DMH
Donna MacKenzie Donna's interest in homeopathy started when she was told by a well-known homeopath that her health was "incurable using homeopathy." She didn't believe him, so she began her search to find the homeopath or the system of homeopathy that would prove that statement wrong. After one year of searching, she met with a homeopath who practiced Heilkunst, which she learned was an advanced form of homeopathy used for more complex cases, providing a more systematic means of correcting the cause of illness and restoring health. This treatment returned her to a state of health. She was curable, after all, and wondered how many others given the same diagnosis and prognosis might also be cured using this new system of medicine based on Hahnemann.

She was so intrigued by homeopathy and the results that it achieved that it has become a passion for her. She studied with the Rudi Verspoor and Patty Smith, and received her DIHom.(Pract.) diploma as well as the DHHP diploma of the Hahnemann College. She now practices Homeopathy and Heilkunst in Ottawa. One of her goals is to help others who may feel discouraged, as she did, when they are told or feel that that there isn't any cure or any hope of feeling better. She now knows that there is a way of achieving lasting health!

JoAnn O'Connor ()
DHHP
JoAnn O'Connor JoAnn first studied homeopathy with the Ottawa School of Homeopathy in 1991, and went on to further her studies at the Centre de Techniques Homéopathiques in Montréal. She completed her graduate studies with Rudi Verspoor and Patty Smith.

JoAnn tutors students for the Hahnemann College, enjoys supervising students interested in gaining clinical experience and has a thriving practice of her own. Her clients and students benefit from her gentle nature and her open mind. JoAnn lives in Ottawa with her two healthy, lively sons, Nicholas and Kayan.

Linda Clifford ()
DynBC, DMH

Gudula Beythien ()
DMH, DVH
Gudula Beythien Gudula Beythien is a graduate of the DHHP and DVHH programs of the Hahnemann College for Heilkunst.

Prior to her studies with the HCH she received her Bach Flower Level 1 diploma from the Bach Institute in England, and attained her Reiki Levels 1 & 2.

Gudula is treating humans and also provides consultations for their companion animals or livestock. Her interest in supporting animals via Heilkunst is based on her operating a dairy farm with her husband and two children, and owning two warmblood horses that she is training to be eventing horses. She has flown all over Canada instructing organic dairy farmers on how to care for their herd naturally.

Her belief is that all kept animals take on additional burdens from their changed (unnatural) habitat, which causes them to fall ill and/or display changes in their personality and/or breed or species-specific behaviour. Gudula's goal is to bring awareness to the owner and to support the health of the animal through Heilkunst.

Susan Cohen ()
DMH
Susan Cohen As Susan's children started growing, and unfortunately started getting persistent ear infections, colds and occasional cases of strep throat, she began questioning the advice she was receiving from the pediatricians and specialists. Her children never seemed to really get better, and never seemed to be fully healthy. She started studying at a natural health school, just to be able to help her children. Her time there was spent studying the ancient art of Chinese medicine, and she was subsequently introduced to a homeopath who taught in the school. With her interest piqued, she launched her quest to find the best homeopathic school that she could. Her enquiries took her to another city, to Ottawa, and before long she was studying at the Hahnemann College for Heilkunst and traveling to get to classes.

Susan started her adult life in the accounting profession and spent many years with a private practice. What she enjoyed most about the accounting profession was that there is a correct resolution to any problem, and a sense of accomplishment when the job is done. She is very happy to have found these qualities in the practice of Heilkunst. There are no problems that are insurmountable, and the personal growth, freedom, and level of health that can be attained through Heilkunst is the best and highest accomplishment possible.

Although Susan has finished her diploma program, she has continued her studies and investigations into this field through continuing education at the Hahnemann College in order to be able to be up to date in all the newest information that is uncovered. She has added the application of the NeuroSCENAR to her practice to help alleviate acute pain while treatment is ongoing.

Susan is a Doctor of Medical Heilkunst with the Canadian/International Heilkunst Association (C/IHA). She is also a member of the Academy of Naturopaths and Naturotherapists in Quebec (A.N.N.).

Because Susan's clinic in Montreal is a member-clinic of the Hahnemann Clinic for Heilkunst based in Ottawa, Ontario, Susan has access to all of the research and advantages of a multi-practitioner, multi-office association that will greatly benefit her clients.

Manuela Mueller-Code ()
DMH
Manuela Mueller-Code Manuela researched alternatives to the conventional medical system in Germany as a result of allopathic treatment, where doctors were unable to identify the cause of her suffering. Experiencing the success of Naturopathic therapy, Manuela decided to study Naturopathic Medicine in 1989 for one year. Born and raised in a small city in Northern Germany, Manuela moved to the Frankfurt area, where she met her husband and immigrated to Canada in 1997.

While it took a few years to fully settle in the Ottawa Valley, Manuela remembers being aware of the fact that increasingly people around her were diagnosed with cancer, and she eventually lost a dear sister-in-law to lung cancer. Fearful of getting cancer herself and determined to help those fighting cancer, Manuela searched for alternatives, which would not only be able to effectively treat conditions like cancer and minimize the sufferings, but could also act preventatively.

Intrigued by the fundamentals of the Heilkunst system including its principles, science and deep understanding of cure, and grounded in the laws of nature, Manuela embarked on her studies with the Hahnemann College in Ottawa and graduated in July 2004. Her own journey through Heilkunst treatment has taken an evolution beyond her expectations, and she enjoys living in the truth and making resonant choices within her life.

Manuela is a Doctor of Homeopathic Medicine HD(RHom.) with the National United Professional Association of Trained Homeopaths (NUPATH), and a Doctor of Medical Heilkunst DMH with the Canadian/International Heilkunst Association.

As a member of the Hahnemann Clinic for Heilkunst, she is practicing Heilkunst and Homeopathy in Ottawa and has established a branch of the Hahnemann Clinic in Arnprior to serve the Ottawa Valley. The clinic is located in an old Arnprior landmark, the Kenwood Mills Building (see map). Arnprior is also known as the Town of two beautiful Rivers, the Ottawa and the Madawaska. It is located only 30 minutes West of Ottawa on Highway 17, and with its picturesque setting and beautiful charm is an attraction for everyone.

Along with her husband and their two lovely, fun and energetic boys as well as their Labrador Retriever, Manuela enjoys the Canadian country lifestyle in the valley.

Manuela holds dual citizenship, Canadian and German, and conducts consultations internationally in either language. Her personal vision is to help individuals find their full potential, empowering them to make choices and guiding them to enjoy a happy and healthy life.

Aleks Mikic ()
DMH, DVH
Aleks Mikic Aleks was born and raised in the former Yugoslavia and lives now in Iowa. She left her country following her graduation from The University of Architecture in Belgrade.

Facing health challenges along with the harshness and limitations of conventional medicine, she was forced to look for a path of no harm. At first she turned to Reiki and Craniosacral therapy, and she still offers those treatments to patients within the broader perspective of Heilkunst. But Heilkunst was the ultimate answer, clearly defined through principles and natural laws.

Aleks is a graduate of Hahnemann College for Heilkunst and a Doctor of Mediacal Heilkunst and a Doctor of Veterinary Heilkunst with the Canadian/International Heilkunst Association. Her practice welcomes all species, either in person or through phone consultations.

Marion Elliott (heilkunst@sympatico.ca)

Brett Binette (brettbinette@gmail.com)
MD, DHHP, DMH, DynNC
Brett Binette For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a healer. During my educational years from elementary school through to university, I was naturally drawn to the natural sciences. It was during my medical school training at the University of Alberta that I really began to come to the realization that in fact there is so much more to health and disease than is admitted to or generally accepted in the conventional medical model. While in medical school, I began to explore some complementary therapies such as nutrition, Ayurveda, Reiki, and herbal medicine. At the same time I began studying and practicing yoga and meditation, and exploring spirituality in general.

By the time I finished medical school, I had decided that I wanted to integrate some of the complementary approaches into my medical practice, but I was not entirely sure which of the approaches I wanted to focus on. It was during my Family Medicine residency training program at the University of Calgary that I started learning more about homeopathy. I was introduced to Heilkunst and the Hahnemann College for Heilkunst (HCH) through a friend, and I was immediately drawn to the comprehensive and extremely well grounded approach that is taught and practiced there. I started my formal studies in the DHHP program immediately, while at the same time undergoing the Heilkunst treatment process myself.

The almost four years of study was an incredible journey, where I learned so much about myself, health and disease, and life in general—and the best part is that I never intend on stopping to learn.

In addition to completing my Medical Degree (2001), and my family medicine residency (2003), I have also completed a Dynamic Nutrition certificate (2006) as well as a DHHP certificate (2007) from the HCH. I am also a Doctor of Medical Heilkunst with the Canadian-International Heilkunst Association (CIHA).

My other interests include yoga, meditation, hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, playing guitar, painting, and spending time with my wife.

My passion for learning, my quest for Truth, and my love of life are the wellsprings that feed my practice of Heilkunst, and my aim is to be a guide for others along their own individual healing journeys.
